Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1, episode 4 – Review

This was a super action-packed episode, right from the beginning! Akela was amazing (am I spelling that correctly?), though it was heartbreaking that she had to use her skills for theft. The scene where she plunged the needle into her own eye was nerve-wracking, and it made me super jittery and nervous. However, it was also slightly fascinating, simply because her character is so focused, so practiced, she probably didn’t even FEEL the pain. What a BAMF.

As always, the relationship between Skye and Agent Ward was cute and flirtatious, and I’m betting they’re going to kiss sometime in the mid-season finale. Their chemistry is adorable and they have the best witty, sarcastic dialogue.

Along with that, the father-daughter scenes between Skye and Coulson were some of the highlights of the episode. Their relationship is quickly and very visibly growing stronger, and I can tell he’s really starting to think of her as family. It’s wonderful and really heartwarming, and I hope we get more scenes like it.

One of the funnier moments of the episode was when Agent Ward was trying to “bromance” the guard (instead of seducing him – now THAT would have been even MORE hilarious). His general awkwardness was charming, even though it didn’t work on the cold security officer. I’m glad we’re starting to see more of his own doubts, which greatly contrasts with the practiced, level-headed man we usually get.

All in all, it was a really wonderful episode, complete with well-paced scenes and great characters. I’m looking forward to next week!
